Muccuni

A mouthful of sea

Muccuni (mouthfuls) are sea snails eaten raw with a squeeze of lemon juice or just stir-fried with oil and lemon. For this recipe, as well as for cozze and babbaluci, the art of sucking is a required in the resume of the perfect street food lover, a skill that is very pleasant to learn. It is considered almost offensive to take the muccune out of its shell using a fork or a toothpick: to taste this dish you have to fight barehanded removing any artificial obstacle.
